Abenomics
The Prime Minister of Japan is named Shinzō Abe. You’ve heard of Reaganomics, Bushonomics, Obamanomics, and Hooked on Phonics. Abenomics are just P.M. Abe’s approach to economic policy, which basically drives an increase in money supply and government spending with the hope of making Japan’s declining population more of a player in the global markets, reminiscent of its heyday when it was minting Toyotas, Walkmen, and sushi by the ton. After a decade of pressing on the government’s gas pedal, only modest returns have found their way to the aging country. The jury is still out on whether we’ll call this Abenomics, or Oy-Veynomics.
