If you’ve ever been to a child’s birthday party, you know what anarchy is. Anarchists throughout history have been against a central government telling them what to do.
Emma Goldman is a famous historical example. People sometimes list figures like Henry David Thoreau as well, though his anarchy was more laid back (more "just leave me be" than "down with the government!"). And most big hair '80s rock bands who sang ballads about the end of the world. There's also an argument that laissez-faire (allow to do) capitalists or libertarians represent a kind of preppy group of anarchists.
The term has also been used to describe chaos and lawlessness in a society.
In financial terms, there are even “crypto-anarchists” who want everyone to use a non-government controlled cryptocurrency such as Bitcoin as a means of undermining authority.
