We all make mistakes at work. The guy at McDonald’s gives you regular Coke instead of diet. The guy at the Amazon warehouse sends you a shirt in the wrong size. Usually, the consequences aren't that dire.

Architects and engineers make mistakes too. Only their mistakes can cause buildings to fall down. Or at the very least, the errors create construction delays or lead to expensive rebuilds. So while there might not be burger-making insurance or Amazon shirt size getter insurance, there is something called "architects and engineers insurance."

Consider it in the ballpark of medical malpractice insurance. Except in this case, the policy covers any damage caused by mistakes made by architects and engineers (and other types of building professionals as well). It is usually purchased as a supplement to liability insurance bought for a building project and typically covers the entire firm, rather than a particular individual.
