Created after the 1987 stock market crash, the basket is a collection of assets, such as an index option, which have been grouped according to their weighted average and sum. As opposed to securities held in a mutual fund, the investor in a basket owns each investment within it, and is the beneficiary of the investments' capital gains and generated income.
