Brand Piracy
The intentional act of closely mimicking an existing brand in an attempt to mislead consumers into projecting the same associations of quality, reliability, or other brand characteristics onto the copycat offering.
When Dwayne was around 10 years old, his family didn’t have much money, and he would eat a cereal named “Kripsy Rice” for breakfast, believing it was the same as “Rice Krispies.” Dwayne was today days old when he learned that this was a form of brand piracy.
