Countertrade

Countertrade is a type of international trade in which trade occurs without currency. One country trades goods or services for another country's, well...goods or services.

This is common practice in many third world and under-developed countries. In these countries, currency can be extremely volatile, and can frankly be relatively worthless. Because of this, and the added level of simplicity, trade often happens the old school way: “We’ll give ya this for that.”
