Crop Year
Categories: Accounting, Metrics
For those adventurous (delusional?) investors “playing in” the commodities market, it’s important to know the crop year for certain types of agricultural products, so you know when to buy and sell them.
The crop year is simply the time period between one harvest and the next, and different commodities have different crop years.
For example, the crop year for barley runs from June 1 to May 31, while the crop year for corn is from September 1 to August 31. However, pork bellies can arrive at any time. Sort of like the Spanish Inquisition.
