Financial Privacy
Categories: Regulations
We as consumers have legal rights when it comes to how our financial info is used and shared; those rights fall under the umbrella of something we call financial privacy.
Basically, our financial info, like information about our physical and mental health, is private. Our financial institutions aren’t allowed to share that stuff with outside agencies without our consent, and in many cases, they can’t even share it with other divisions within their own company. They also can’t share it with other random people without our consent, which is great, because it means our miscreant cousin Julie can’t just call up our bank and find out how much we’ve got in savings before she hits us up for another "loan."
