Group Of 7 (G7)
Categories: Econ, International
You know how in high school you had a tight crew of pals, a devoted gang of friends who spent every possible minute together...but then one member of the group really got into line dancing, and started hanging out with their new line dancing friends, and stopped spending so much time with the original gang?
That's kind of what happened with the G7. The G8 consists of the world's biggest and most influential economies (plus Canada). One of its members was Russia. But starting in 2014, the other members stopped inviting Russia because of its aggressive foreign policy and accusations of human rights violations.
Thus, the G8 became the G7. And Russia is left to line dance on its own.
