Latin Baseball Futures
Categories: Derivatives
Your favorite shortstop was born in the Dominican Republic. That hot-shot closer on your team hails from Peru. It's become pretty cliche that Latin American players dominate most baseball teams. Here's your chance to invest in it (in Wall Street terms at least...we suppose you could have been "investing" in them at a Vegas sportsbook all along).
The basic idea goes like this: there's a 13-year-old kid in the DR who shows great promise of becoming a big leaguer someday. So a bunch of Wall Street suits pool some money, pay for the kid's food and shelter, get him some top-notch training, and basically steer his career. If he gets signed by a major league team, the investors get paid off.
Latin American Baseball Futures are considered an exotic investment, for millionaires and billionaires who have grown bored of collecting art or stocking their wine cellars.
