NASDAQ Composite Index

It's an index fund. It's just populated with tech-leaning companies. Think: Amazon, Netflix, Google, Facebook, along with bio-tech and drug companies and other, edgier "new world" kinds of stocks.
Why does this even matter? Well, newer companies that don't pay dividends and are more about bets on earnings growth are typically more volatile than "old world" companies that don't grow all that much, but pay a big fat dividend. Those companies, like GE, AT&T, and IBM, are more the domain of old world exchanges, like the NYSE.
