Natural Gas Equivalent

“Natural gas equivalent” is a fancy term for whoopee cushion.
Eh, okay. "Natural gas equivalent” is just a term for how much natural gas we have to use to get the same amount of energy we get from a barrel of crude oil. It’s measured in Btu (that’s British thermal units), and for the most part, one barrel of oil equals 6,000 cubic feet of natural gas.
Outside of the gas and oil industry, we might see the acronym BOE, which stands for “barrel of oil equivalent” and means exactly the same thing as “natural gas equivalent.” Nowhere near as funny as whoopee cushions, but probably a lot more useful in the grand scheme of things.
