Potash
Categories: Trading
Spring is in the air...it's time to garden. What do plants crave? Yep, electrolytes. A specific type of electrolyte: potassium.
Potash is any mixture that has potassium in it, namely fertilizers. Potassium and plants jibe well together, because potassium is water soluble—keeping the water around the plant. Potash is also used to make soap and glass.
First time hearing about potash? In 2017, it was estimated by the U.S. Geological Service to have a market value of $400 million. Well over three quarters of potash is going from where it came, back into the ground, as fertilizer.
You can get in on the potash market as a trader. Nowadays, Belarus, Canada, China, Germany, Israel, Jordan, and Russia are making most of the world’s potash, so chances are you’d be trading over international waters. Like other commodities, potash is extracted and processed. Unlike other commodities, like gold and silver, potash is not in the spotlight. While dirt’s not as shiny as metals, there’s no questioning its value, providing us indirectly with food and oxygen via plants, as well as its permanent place in its $400 million market.
Time to get your hands dirty.
