Fifths. The top quintile is the top 20%. Why quintiles? And isn't that the new Spock, anyway, like...Zachary Quintile or something?
The quintile is often the divisor line for how stock performance is grouped. At the end of each investing year, Santa reviews performance and divines who has been naughty and who has been nice...and the winners are the upper quintile performers. In a huge down market, you made it to the top quintile by just being flat for the year; in a massive bull market like 1998's, if you weren't at least double, you weren't even in the upper two quintiles.
Everything's relative...logically. Invest for the long-run, and prosper.
