Revenue is important for a few reasons: First, you gotta have some to pay your bills. Second, how much you make decides how much you pay in taxes. Finally, revenues are often the starting point when you're trying to decide whether you're making good business decisions ("How can we increase revenue?")
NB: also called "top-line" in kitsch Wall Street circles.
