Context

This line is spoken by Buffy Summers (played by Sarah Michelle Gellar) in episode "The Gift" of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, written by Joss Whedon (1997-2003).

After fighting the evil, yet utterly fabulous, goddess Glory, Buffy and her friends are about to breathe a nice sigh of relief until the next season of the show. But unfortunately, there is still an open portal to an apocalypse-causing dimension, and the blood of Buffy's sister, Dawn, is the only thing that can shut it. Sad feelings ensue.

However, Buffy, who is selfless and heroic, realizes that she shares the same blood as Dawn, and that she can stop the apocalypse by sacrificing her own life. She gives a long, beautiful speech telling Dawn and her friends to move on without her before she jumps into the portal, saving her sister and the entire world. Buffy's friends then give her the best epitaph in the history of fiction (and probably non-fiction too): "She saved the world a lot."

Of course (spoiler!) Buffy comes back from the dead the next season, because she does give the show its title. Things get pretty dark, but this line of dialogue is always there to comfort her.

Who knew a TV show based on a campy 90s movie could wax so philosophical?
