Context

This line was spoken by Tony Stark (played by Robert Downey Jr.) in the film Iron Man, directed by Jon Favreau (2008).

Iron Man isn't a superhero who likes to play by the rules. Unlike most of his super friends, he is completely public with his not-so-secret identity. He is an attractive, charming billionaire CEO with a high-tech super suit. Who wouldn't want to brag about that?

So Tony ignores the advice of…well, basically everyone in his life, and straight up tells the entire world that he is Iron Man at the end of the first movie. The public nature of his superheroism puts a huge target on his back, but over the course of several films, he has fought and defeated corrupt arms dealers, whip-wielding Russian scientists, evil Norse gods, aliens, and even an evil robot that he accidentally created.

Iron Man kicks major butt, but he has a lot of flaws, including arrogance, narcissism, and an addiction to his work that pushes his friends away. Having a public superhero identity is unfortunately a double-edged sword.

Where you've heard it

Marvel movies have dominated the box office for the past decade so you've probably seen at least one of the 6+ movies where Iron Man has shown up, blasted something, and made a funny quip or two along the way.
