And in that moment, I swear we were infinite.

Context

This line is spoken by Charlie in the book The Perks of Being a Wallflower, by Stephen Chbosky (1999).

We've all had moments that seem to stretch on forever…and ever…and ever. Usually, this happens when we're waiting for a root canal, or taking a flight home for Thanksgiving, or sitting through the trailer for a new Adam Sandler movie. (Sorry, Adam.)

But in The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Charlie, the titular wallflower, has one of those infinite moments at a good time. Driving through a tunnel with two new friends, lonely Charlie experiences true friendship for the first time. It's a feeling that will last for his entire lifetime.

Or at least until the book ends.

Where you've heard it

You use this quote during what TV Tropes might call a "crowning moment of awesome." It can be used during a great concert, sports game, or even kiss. The possibilities are truly infinite.

  • Of course, this quote is in the 2012 Perks movie, when Hermione flies without a broomstick to a beautiful David Bowie song.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

We've all read our fair share of pretentious Young Adult characters, but our buddy Charlie isn't really one of them. Dropping this line lands you on the lower end of the spectrum.
