"Kill the pig. Cut her throat. Bash her in."

"We spread round. I crept, on hands and knees. The spears fell out because they hadn't barbs on. The pig ran away and made an awful noise—"

"It turned back and ran into the circle, bleeding—"

All the boys were talking at once, relieved and excited.

Then Maurice pretended to be the pig and ran squealing into the center, and the hunters, circling still, pretended to beat him. As they danced, they sang.

"Kill the pig. Cut her throat. Bash her in."

Context

Chapter 4 of Lord of the Flies, and things are already getting majorly out of control.

First the boys are killing pigs; then the boys are pretending to kill boys who are pretending to be pigs; and finally, Jack is hunting down Ralph in (possibly?) pretend hopes of impaling his head on a stick.

The boys get eased into murder, just like we get eased into reading about it.

Where you've heard it

Sounds like an out of control frat party to us. Hopefully in that case, though, the pig is actually a pig.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

We're giving this one a 10 just because of how freakin' scary it is.
