The Chronicler has gone to a lot of trouble to scrub lots of the sex and violence from the story of Israel's kings, but he can't edit it out altogether. Our tale features some pretty gruesome passages—suicide (10:4), decapitation (10:9), burning alive (14:12), God killing 70,000 people in three days (21:14), and war, war, war (18:1-3). Sure, this book is a little warmer and fuzzier than some of the other stories about kings, but it's not for the faint of heart either. Consider yourself warned.
