More really has no human guide, mentor, or even ally. His family loves him, but even they don't want him to die and urge him to sign the oath. Still, we can't really leave this section blank.

In More's eyes, he does have a guide—God. He's trying to remain truthful to his religious principles, and it's the will of God, as expressed through the Church's teachings, that he's attempting to follow.
