What's Up With the Ending?
What a neat, tidy ending we have here. Marty's parents are bigger and better (well, okay, his mom is smaller and better), Biff's been put in his place, the house looks great, and Marty's got that 4x4 he always wanted. He's even still got the girl. Fade to black, right?
Uh, nope. Here comes that trouble-making Brown character to stir things up once again. Just when we were getting our coats on and preparing to toss our last remaining popcorn kernels, suddenly there's a problem with Marty and Jennifer's kids, and they've got to join Doc on a trip to the future, and—wait a minute, what?—the DeLorean flies now? That's a lot to take in over the span of a couple of minutes, especially when we'd already given our brains the go-ahead to initiate shutdown.
Fortunately for us, we don't have to spend hours laboring mentally over what all of that might possibly mean. All we have to do is watch Back to the Future II, and our questions will be answered.
So…what's up with the ending, you ask? Those crafty filmmakers wanted to do whatever they could to whet your appetite for the sequel, that's what. We think they did a pretty good job. We're starving.
