Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox)’s Timeline and Summary
- We start out with some establishing scenes that convey a few things about our hero: he has trouble getting his butt to school on time, he's crazy in love with his girlfriend Jennifer, he's in a rock band that's a tad too loud, and he has some questionable taste in friends.
- Marty meets up with his friend Doc in a mall parking in the wee hours of the morning, and is bowled over when his friend tells him he's built a time machine out of a DeLorean. He then gets to experience the thing first-hand when he has to flee from a van full of angry Libyan nationalists who have just gunned down his buddy.
- Marty finds himself in 1955, where he is almost immediately yelled at, shot at, and worse—teased. He bumps into his dad George in a diner, as well as George's future supervisor, Biff… who has apparently bullied the poor guy all his life.
- He then follows his dad, only to find him peeping through a bedroom window. When George falls out of a tree, landing in the middle of the street, Marty pushes him out of the way and gets hit by a car that should have hit his father… and suddenly he's on track to never being born. So much for being a Good Samaritan.
- Marty is brought inside by the driver of the vehicle, who just so happens to be his mother's father. His mother, Lorraine, then develops the hots for him, which is all kinds of wrong.
- Marty tracks down Doc and explains the situation. The two devise a plan to get Marty back to the future, but it involves spending one week in Hill Valley, and doing whatever he can in the meantime to play matchmaker for mom and pop.
- He starts working on his dad and trying his darnedest to convince him to ask his mom to the school dance, but both George's anxiety and some unwelcome interference from Biff are complicating things.
- With Lorraine's feelings for Marty growing, he and George come up with a solid Plan B: Marty will take Lorraine to the dance, but once he starts getting fresh with her (blegh), George will open the car door, pretend to punch him out, and become her hero.
- Anyone got a Plan C? While parked outside the school, Biff grabs Marty out of the car and passes him off to his goons, who throw him into the trunk of another car. He gets out just in time to see George knock Biff unconscious.
- After playing a little ditty at the school dance and watching his parents share their first kiss, he books it over to where Doc has set the stage for Marty's return journey. There are a couple of snags, but on this occasion time is on his side.
- Back in 1985, Marty looks on as Doc once again gets riddled with bullets. Fortunately, thanks to a warning he received from his time traveling visitor, he came prepared with a bulletproof vest.
- Marty wakes up the next morning to find his parents, more or less. They're thinner, healthier and more confident than their previous incarnations. You're welcome, Mom and Dad.
- No rest for the weary though. Doc is back, and warns Marty that "something's got to be done about [his] kids." So he and Jennifer hop into the DeLorean and they're off to make a sequel.
