• These two huskies are acquired by Perrault.
• Billee gets beaten up by Spitz, but Joe holds his own.
• Billee teaches Buck how to sleep in the snow.
• Joe loses an eye and Billee an ear in the fight with the feral dogs.
• Joe is kept in line by Buck, whereas Spitz was not able to punish him.
• When Billee is too weary to rise, Hal kills him by knocking him in the head with a club.
• Joe dies with the rest of the dog team when the bottom drops out of the trail.
