• The Summoner's portrait is the 21st in the General Prologue.
• In the Friar's prologue, the Summoner deals with the Friar's hatred of him by asking that he be allowed to tell his tale, promising that his revenge will come with the tale he tells himself.
• In his prologue, the Summoner gets back at the Friar by telling a lewd story about how a man has a vision of hell in which millions of friars are living in the devil's anus.
• The Summoner is the eighth to tell his tale, after the Friar and before the Clerk.
