It's a darn happy one, that's for sure. After watching a good kid like Charlie struggle through hunger and poverty, and watching those other greedy kids act like fools, we're eager for some good news for the Buckets.
And good news they get. It turns out Charlie's good behavior pays off, and not just for him. His entire family will get to enjoy life at the chocolate factory. While we imagine Charlie would have been quite happy with just a lifetime's supply of sweets, like the other children got, this is the ending he truly deserves.
We love the fact that in the end, we can even see a bit of Mr. Wonka in Charlie. When Grandma Josephine asks if there will be anything to eat at the factory, Charlie laughs and says, "Oh, you just wait and see!" He sounds just like Mr. Wonka, and it's enough to make you stand up and cheer. We have a feeling Charlie will fit right in.
