Paine begins the pamphlet by appealing to regular Americans and political leaders to organize an armed rebellion against their British rulers.
It's true that many people will want to play things safe and submit to British rule. They figure: why not let the next generation worry about dying in battle for the sake of independence?
But Paine knows that sooner or later, every rational American will see the titular common sense behind his arguments for independence. When that day comes (hopefully soon), America will become unstoppable.
