The Crystal Cave Book One, Chapter 4 Summary

  • After all the ruckus with King Gorlan (and Camlach trying to poison Merlin), things simmer down in Maridunum.
  • Merlin also puts Dinias in his place by using a piece of information he overheard to threaten his cousin. He also lets Dinias believe that he got the info through magic—no bullying after that.
  • Queen Olwen is obviously very pregnant, but Camlach doesn't care one bit. He knows that he's the king's favorite and a good fighter, so his future throne is secure.
  • Niniane spends even more time with the women from St. Peter's, which makes Camlach even happier. He knows he won't have to worry about a power play from her or Merlin.
  • And Merlin escapes from his lessons with his teacher Demetrius to ride his pony out into the countryside.
  • On one of his rides, Merlin comes across a cave with an underground spring nearby. He sees the image of the god Myrddin carved by the spring there.
  • Merlin decides it would be a great idea to explore the cave.
