• Gwendolen plays roulette in Leubronn at the hotel casino. She meets Daniel's gaze. Suddenly, after winning a whole lot of money, she loses everything.
• Gwendolen goes to a party and asks everyone who Daniel is.
• Gwendolen finds out that her mom and aunt have both lost all of their fortunes. Her mom asks her to come home immediately.
• Gwendolen pawns her turquoise necklace to get money for her family.
• When Gwendolen gets back to her hotel room, she gets a package – it's her necklace with a note. Gwendolen has a hunch that the stranger who returned it is none other than Daniel Deronda.
• We go back in time by about a year. Gwendolen and her family move to Offendene because her stepfather, Captain Davilow, died.
• Gwendolen sees the scary painting behind a panel in the wall. She forbids anyone from opening it.
• The Arrowpoints have a party. Gwendolen makes a bad first impression on Mrs. Arrowpoint. At the party, Gwendolen plays the piano and Klesmer tells her that her playing leaves something to be desired.
• Rex gets into town and Gwendolen starts spending a lot of time with him.
• The cousins and Gwendolen put on a tableau from Shakespeare. Gwendolen freaks out because the panel hiding the scary painting suddenly springs open.
• Gwendolen and Rex go riding after the hounds. Gwendolen leaves Rex in the dust and he ends up dislocating his shoulder.
• Rex tells Gwendolen he loves her. Gwendolen shoots him down.
• When Grandcourt gets to town, Gwendolen's whole family thinks that he'd be a great match for her.
• Gwendolen and Grandcourt dance at the after-party for the archery competition.

• Gwendolen tells Klesmer she wants to be a singer so she can make a career on the stage and get money for her family. He squashes her dreams.
• Gwendolen thinks about taking a job offer to be the governess for the Mompert family.
• Gwendolen gets a letter from Grandcourt asking if he can come visit. She decides to refuse him if he proposes to her – except, when he actually proposes, she says yes. Whoops.
• Gwendolen and Daniel meet each other face-to-face at Diplow. Gwendolen tells him that she thinks he jinxed her gambling.
• Later, Daniel tells Gwendolen that he disapproves of gambling because you make a gain of someone else's loss.
• Gwendolen and Grandcourt get married.
• Lydia Glasher sends Gwendolen a package containing her diamonds and a note telling her that she broke her promise. Gwendolen flips out.
