Character Analysis
Elaine is the chair of David's department at the University. She and David don't really like each other. David gets the sense that she sees his role at the University as being too old school and that she's looking for an excuse to get rid of him. Later, when David runs into her at the supermarket, we also get the hint that she might be single and lonely.
