Character Analysis

Park's friend Cal is sort of a regular guy. His personality only serves to set Park apart, reminding us that Park doesn't really fit in, even with people he considers good friends. Cal keeps bugging Park to ask out a girl named Kim, even though it's Cal himself who likes Kim; Cal also repeatedly tries to get Park to come to a lot of the big school activities, like homecoming. He's enthusiastic, but often totally insensitive: "Looks like somebody's got jungle fever," Cal says about Eleanor. "That isn't even the right kind of racist" (7.25-26), Park tells him.
