Han rescues Luke after he gets stuck outside on a recon mission, even though he's planning on leaving so he can pay a debt to Jabba the Hutt.
Han waits for Leia to evacuate during the Imperial assault and brings her aboard the Millennium Falcon.
They hide in an asteroid cave that turns out to be a space worm.
They go to Cloud City because Han knows its leader, Lando.
