A Movie Made by People for People Starring People

The big names here, Fox 2000 and Regency, will produce pretty much anything. They run the gamut from Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked (Shmoop guide pending on that one) to 12 Years a Slave (stop reading this now and watch that masterpiece) back to Wrong Turn 6 (we took a wrong turn somewhere and missed 2-5 of that franchise).

So Fight Club fits in here because it has people in it? Although from Alvin and the Chipmunks we see that human actors aren't even a requirement for these guys.

The Linson Company you might not have heard of. They don't have a flashy logo, but they've produced memorable films, too, like The Edge with Anthony Hopkins or Heat with Robert DeNiro. These guys specialize in films with angry men on posters or films with women doing kick-butt things, like holding guns or being Hilary Swank. Fight Club fits right into their M.O.

An Aborted Line

In the novel, after having sex with Tyler Durden, Marla Singer says, "I want to have your abortion." Laura Ziskin, president of Fox, objected to this offensive line. David Fincher agreed to change it, but only on one term: the new line would stick, no questions asked.

The new line: "I haven't been f***ed like that since grade school." How's that for offensive? This is one case where the production company's meddling made a film even edgier.
