This play refers to sex a lot – premarital sex, extramarital sex, sex with maids, sex with relatives, sex between prostitutes and sailors, and so on. And of course syphilis, an STD, figures prominently in the plot. There's a cloud of sex over Ghosts, but it never materializes in front of our eyes, because all of the references are veiled.
