- Po uses the thoughts he read from Ashen when she saw him ever so briefly to help locate Bitterblue.
- Leck's guards come close once or twice, but Po and Katsa manage to evade them and to find Bitterblue as well.
- She won't come to Po, but she eventually comes to Katsa, who bundles her up in as many jackets as possible before passing her to Po to carry like a sack of potatoes.
- They run south, fight and kill fifteen or so guards, and continue on their way, surprised when Bitterblue calmly informs them, "You'll have to kill the king if you ever want him to stop chasing us" (24.68).
- It's kind of a shocking statement coming from a ten-year-old girl, especially since she's talking about her father. We've got a bad feeling about this guy.
