Protagonist
Character Role Analysis
Nobody “Bod” Owens
Bod’s the hero, the main character, the protagonist of The Graveyard Book – no doubt about it. The Graveyard Book is the story of Bod growing up.
The novel does an excellent job of making us like Bod. Although he has some supernatural abilities, and he could even be considered a superhero, he’s totally human. He makes mistakes, gets confused, and bumbles through life just like the rest of us. Unless we’re talking bad guys or bullies, Bod is nice to everybody, and sticks up for life’s underdogs, like Paul Singh and Liza Hempstock. He’s polite, a good student, and a good friend. What more could we want from a protagonist?
