Brain Snacks: Tasty Tidbits of Knowledge
The Pillars of Hercules mark the place where the Mediterranean meets the Atlantic Ocean. The Rock of Gibraltar is considered one of the pillars and either Mt. Acha or Mt. Jebel Musa is the other.
The Pillars of Hercules is also a pub in London, referred to by Dickens in A Tale of Two Cities.
Kratos, the main character in the God of War video game trilogy, has some striking similarities to Heracles. First of all, he's super strong. Second, the gods tricked him into killing his family. Like Heracles, he tries to atone for his crime and becomes a god. Unlike Heracles, he goes on a rampage and kills all of the Olympians.
Kevin Sorbo played our hero in the TV series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. He also voiced Heracles for the God of War III video game.
There's a constellation named after Hercules.
The Hercules beetle is super strong (as you might guess).
Guess what? Nessus ended up in Hell. In Canto XII of Dante's Inferno, Nessus guides Dante and Virgil across a stream of blood.
