Barack Obama's 2009 Inaugural Address: What's Up With the Closing Lines?
Let it be said by our children's children that when we were tested we refused to let this journey end, that we did not turn back nor did we falter; and with eyes fixed on the horizon and God's grace upon us, we carried forth that great gift of freedom and delivered it safely to future generations.
Thank you. God bless you. And God bless the United States of America. (32.3-33)
God, God, God. Like many politicians before and after him, Obama does not hesitate to bring up God in this speech and others, and the way he does it led some people to compare him to a religious leader. He was influenced by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, another legendary speaker.
By the way, politicians end speeches with "God bless America" the way Ron Burgundy ends news broadcasts with "stay classy, San Diego." It almost seems required. It's kind of like how on Jeopardy! you have to answer in the form of a question.
