Bob The Builder Said It Best—"Yes We Can!"
- Reagan shares the story of a father who said he'd rather have his young daughters die while they believe in God, rather than live in a communist world where God doesn't exist. There were lots of young people in the audience, who stood up and cheered because they totally saw the truth in what this guy was saying.
- People should pray for those living under totalitarian governments, pray for them to find God, but also be aware that as long as "they preach the supremacy of the state," they'll be considered evil, too.
- In his "Screwtape Letters," C.S. Lewis wrote, "The greatest evil is not done now in those sordid 'dens of crime' that Dickens loved to paint. It is not even done in concentration camps and labor camps. In those we see its final result. But it is conceived and ordered (moved, seconded, carried and minuted) in clear, carpeted, warmed, and well-lighted offices, by quiet men with white collars and cut fingernails and smooth-shaven cheeks who do not need to raise their voice."
- Just because evil dudes speak in calm voices doesn't mean we should just step aside and let them do whatever they want. Standing silently by would be "a betrayal of our past, the squandering of our freedom." It might be easy to ignore the facts and advocate for the nuclear freeze, but understand the problem is really about the fight between good and evil.
- FYI: military strength is important, but the solution to this problem won't be found on a battlefield, but in the faith and morals of good people.
- Whittaker Chambers said that Marxism-Leninism is "the second oldest faith, first proclaimed in the Garden of Eden with the words of temptation, 'Ye shall be as gods.'" Men who don't believe in a god live in a world without consequences, but faith in freedom must be stronger than a single person believing himself to be godlike, and therefore above everyone else.
- Reagan believes everyone will overcome this "bizarre chapter in human history," which is almost over, anyway. America's strength is spiritual, and that means it can overcome anything. And that's why the nation has the power to really change the world.
