Hmmm. (That's us fake-thinking.) Maya is definitely our protagonist, and we have the by-line to prove it. The story is about her, it's told in her voice, and we root for her the whole way through. And if that weren't enough, we can totally identify with her—after all, we all know that growing up is no picnic.
