- Zoey crashes out and dreams about a cat, a cute little orange tabby with a potbelly. Suddenly her alarm's going off, so she has to get up; she showers and gets ready to face the world.
- Stevie Rae and Zoey talk about their hair; Stevie Rae is one of the few people (male or female) with short hair. Apparently vamps' hair grows super fast so most keep it long.
- Next, Stevie Rae shows Zoey her schedule. She has a few required classes (Vampyre Sociology, Literature, Fencing, and Equestrian Studies), plus some electives (she chooses Drama over Sketching or Music).
- There's a run-in with Aphrodite at breakfast, but Zoey doesn't let her intimidate her or Stevie Rae.
- Stevie Rae walks Zoey to her first class, since all the third-former (basically freshman) classes are in the same hall. Not that this helps Zoey get over her nervousness…
