Marty Scene 2 Summary

  • Marty gets up from the table and closes the pocket doors on either side of the sitting area, takes out a little black book, and picks up the phone.
  • As he dials (it takes forever on those rotary models), he looks nervous. When the other side picks up, he asks to talk to Mary Feeny.
  • When the "big girl" picks up, he explains and explains who he is, but she doesn't seem to remember him. "I'm the stocky one, the heavyset fella."
  • She at lasts remembers. He says he had fun hanging out, would she like to come out tonight with her friend for a double date with him and his friend?
  • He says he knows it's late notice but—she doesn't let him finish a sentence, and apparently rejects him. Marty says he understands, his eyes shut tight, looking truly bummed.
  • He hangs up the phone and puts his little black book away.
