Character Role Analysis

Catherine Morland

Despite not being much of a "heroine," Catherine is undoubtedly our protagonist. We get most of the story from her perspective, we sympathize with her, we cheer her on, and we watch her develop over the course of the story. The plot revolves around Catherine and overall the novel is essentially the story of Catherine: her development as a person, her adventures, her relationships, and her journeys. The comedy also revolves around Catherine as well – she is the classic centerpiece of a comedic story. She's the sane figure surrounded by deceivers, wits, and other highly eccentric figures.
