Afolabe Timeline and Summary

Achille's ancestor first appears in the Battle of the Saints as a slave who helps the British move cannons into place to fire at the French.
Afolabe's leadership is crucial to the success of the British sortie, so an admiral gives him the name Achilles.
When Achille makes his spirit-journey to Africa, he meets his father, Afolabe.
Afolabe explains the significance of names to his son, but Achille is indifferent/confused, so he tells Achille that the lack of interest in the meaning of names threatens their existence.
On his return to the island, Achille sees the name Afolabe written by the wings of a frigate-bird in the sky.
The narrator comments that he sees trees in the southern U.S. "from which Afolabes hung like bats" (XXXV.i.178).
