Exactly how steamy is this story?
R
The play opens with Gower telling us about an incestuous affair between King Antiochus and his daughter. Fortunately, he doesn't give us explicit details. Later in the play, Marina is kidnapped by pirates and sold to a brothel, where she refuses to give up her V-card and is threatened with rape.
The brothel scenes are pretty bawdy and disturbing (a lot like what we see in Measure for Measure). Mostly, there's a lot of coarse talk about sex and sex trafficking. That's why we're giving this play an "R" rating. Go to "Themes" if you want to know more.
