Character Role Analysis
Indiana Jones
Indiana Jones isn't just a protagonist: He's pretty much the protagonist as far as Campbellian archetypes go. He's the first man we see on the screen and for the vast majority of the film he's front-and-center. His actions and reactions define the bulk of the plot, and there's no question whose side we're on from opening titles to closing credits. (Despite his occasional status as a very bad boyfriend.) Most importantly, he demonstrates more growth than any other character: We know that he's different at the end than he was at the beginning. For all of those reasons, not to mention the snazzy hat, he's about as obvious a protagonist as you can get.
