Character Role Analysis

The Ship's Cat

Mice be warned: the ship's cat is a mean bugger. He's got one eye, but he's fast as the wind and he'll pounce on anything that moves. As Nigel says, this cat is "kill-crazy" (6.73). He chases Helena around the ship. Luckily he doesn't catch her though, because otherwise we'd be down both a protagonist and a narrator. Generally speaking, if you're a mouse in this book, there's only one animal on the villain list. Well, unless you're Nigel—apparently he's the Cat Whisperer around here (there seems to be nothing this dreamboat can't handle… swoon).
