If it weren't for Shawshank's extensive fan base, we probably wouldn't even remember that this movie ever existed. It pretty much flopped in theaters originally, which we blame more on the marketing geniuses who were somehow unable to sell a movie to the public that should have easily sold itself.

Critics loved it to pieces, though, and it has since become one of the most watched films in Hollywood history. We dare you to turn on AMC right now and not find the movie coming on sometime within the next three hours.
