The Miser Act 1, Scene 8 Summary

  • Now that Élise and Valère are alone, she checks with him to make sure that he's not actually supporting her father's decision. He says that he needs to look as if he's supporting the old man in order to keep his favor. He also advises Élise to pretend to obey her father for the time being.
  • When the time comes to get married, Élise can pretend to be super ill and the family will call in the doctor to postpone the marriage.
