The Sting Scene 8 Summary

  • This scene opens with a title card saying, "The Hook" on it.
  • We see one of the conmen (Kid Twist) walk into a side door in an alley. Apparently, this is going to be the headquarters and staging ground of the big con.
  • They plan on setting the place up to look like a betting place for horse races within the week, which is apparently a pretty tall order.
  • We flash to a train station, where Henry and Johnny follow Doyle Lonnegan onto a train in fancy clothes. Once they're on the train, Henry bribes one of the train workers into getting him into the poker game that happens on the train.
  • Back in Chicago, Kid Twist walks into a crowded bar and charms everyone around him. He walks into a back room and tells a guy at a desk that he needs at least twenty of his best conmen.
  • Back inside the main bar, Detective Snyder walks in and the whole place falls silent.
  • Twist goes to a slot in the door and says he doesn't recognize Snyder, although he knows the guy is a cop.
  • Meanwhile, Snyder recognizes Johnny's old partner Joe and asks him where Johnny is. Joe makes a wise crack and Snyder busts up his nose, telling him to let Johnny know he's in big trouble if he doesn't pay up soon.
  • In the back room, Kid Twist goes over the conmen available for his big score. He tells the other guy to get all the available men to meet at a local pool hall later that night.
